Even after a perfect repair, your car is worth less the moment it appears on a vehicle history report with an accident. That loss is called diminished value, and in most states you can recover it from the at-fault driver's insurer. Many drivers leave hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the table because they don't know this claim exists or how to file it.
